No. Due to the fact that the phones we sell need to be certified on our network and need to operate at a certain radio frequency, you can only add a phone to your service that you purchase through Cbeyond. Cbeyond is working hard to add many new models to our product catalog so if you don’t see the model that you would like to buy, keep checking back with us via our website.
Activating Service
Once my phone arrives, is there any setup required?
Unless you are transferring your existing number, your phone comes in working condition, activated for voice services. The manufacturer does encourage you to give your phone’s battery a full charge before using it. If you are transferring in an existing phone number, this will take an additional step.
How do I move/transfer my existing phone number to my BlackBerry smartphone?
This step is relevant if you have an existing phone number that you would like to move to your BlackBerry smartphone. If you want to transfer your existing phone number, please review the instructions below and have your documentation ready before calling CBEYOND'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT at 1-866-424-5100, Monday through Friday.
Note: A Number Transfer typically takes 2 to 5 hours to complete if all the information supplied is correct. Incorrect or incomplete information can delay the transfer process up to 24 hours.
You will need a copy of your current service provider’s bill and make sure you know the exact information listed below:
  • The name of your curent service provider.
  • The curent, active phone number that you wish to transfer.
  • The account number of your curent service as it appears on your bill.
  • Your name and address exactly as they each appear on your bill.
  • A telephone number where you can be reached during the transfer process.
  • The account password for your curent service.
  • Your Social Security number, tax identification number, or other information that your current service provider can use to identify you.
Note: DO NOT CANCEL YOUR EXISTING PHONE SERVICE UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED CONFIRMATION FROM CBEYOND THAT YOUR TRANSFER HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
If you are transferring your existing mobile number over to Cbeyond, you should maintain access to both your old phone and your new Cbeyond phone until the transfer is complete. Although you will be able to make calls from your new phone, including calls to 911, you may not be able to immediately receive calls on your new phone until the transfer process is complete (this includes return calls from 911 personnel).
(strongly recommended) You should call your previous provider once you have confirmation from Cbeyond that your transfer is complete and you have successfully made and received phone calls from your BlackBerry. Confirm they have terminated your account and request a final bill. This step may save you from potential billing disputes with your previous provider.

What if my company has a BlackBerry Enterprise Server?
If your company has standardized on communication and collaboration server-side software such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino or Novell GroupWise you can configure the BlackBerry to use an optional BlackBerry Enterprise Server (software upgrade required).
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server has many advantages over the BlackBerry Internet Service, including wireless synchronization. Your BlackBerry smartphone will automatically update and synchronize with any updates made to your calendar or address book without use of the USB cable. Please consult your in-house IT professional if you think this option is the right one for you.
Note: If your company is using Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino or Novell GroupWise, please contact your IT administrator before attempting to configure your BlackBerry’s data service.
The BlackBerry Internet Service is useful because you can configure it to pull from up to 10 different email addresses/ISPs (some restrictions apply) allowing your BlackBerry smartphone to send and receive email from multiple sources (for example, business email and personal email).
The following instructions will walk you through setup, either activating service via the smartphone (recommended) or going to the BlackBerry Internet Service website to set up your service (optional).

It is sort of like an Instant Message that works only with BlackBerry. This unique feature allows you to verify that the message was received by the recipient’s device as your inbox will show the sent message with a check next to it and once the recipient’s smartphone acknowledges receipt, a small D (for Delivered) will appear near the check mark.

Will my email messages be deleted on my PC email?
However, if you are an enterprise user with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation on Microsoft Exchange, Novell groupwise or Lotus Domino, then your actions on the smartphone will be mimicked on your regular email (in this case the BlackBerry Internet Service isn’t relevant).

What network does the Cbeyond BeyondMobile use?
The BlackBerry Voice and Data network uses a national CDMA 2000® 1x network.
Where is coverage available?
How can I tell if I am in coverage?
In the top right corner of the home screen there is a 1X indicator (or 1XEV) and next to that is an icon of a telephone pole which should have bars appearing next to it. The best coverage is indicated by 5 bars. The more bars that you have, the better the coverage you are in.
What factors affect coverage?
Your BlackBerry smartphone uses radio frequencies so coverage is affected by anything that could interfere with radio waves. Typically, you get better coverage outside of a building than inside.
Is there anything I can do to ensure I get the best coverage available?
The BlackBerry smartphone has an internal antenna so it is imperative that you use it when you are in spotty coverage in a manner that maximizes the antenna’s surface area. The best manner to do this is to have the BlackBerry smartphone at a vertical angle and to use the included hands-free earbud so that your hand is not blocking the antenna. When not using the BlackBerry smartphone, you should keep it in the belt-clip (included) in order to maximize coverage and battery life.
