Experts in the field of cloud computing anticipate a high adoption rate of the new technology in the coming years, especially by small businesses. ZDNet indicated that 75 percent of companies will subscribe to cloud services in 2012. Research conducted by Parallels shows that small companies will most likely double the number of paid applications they use on the cloud for business operations in the next three years. The findings also indicated that smaller firms with fewer than 20 employees are three times more likely to commit to using the cloud, as opposed to on-premise servers, as their internet source. The Parallels study concluded that cloud service popularity has been on the rise for quite some time, noting that the market for the technology expanded by 25 percent in 2011. A report by Forrester Research predicted that the market will magnify to $241 billion by 2020. There are many benefits of adopting cloud services to replace on-premise IT solutions. A recent study, ZDNet shows, revealed that 82 percent of businesses that utilize the cloud save a significant amount of money. |
