Healthcare cloud, mobile applications developing

As medical experts are implementing cloud services for patients records, healthcare providers are making the more specific move to establishing numerous mobile applications for medical professionals and patients to use for optimal healthcare.

Currently, there are tens of thousands of medical mobile apps available to consumers today, and experts predict that the number of healthcare app users will grow to 500 million by 2015. The problem, however, is that the majority of these apps are not in sync and do not communicate with each other or with medical professionals.

As it stands right now, healthcare providers can only access some of the patient information stored in these apps, and consumers can only access their own information that they store in apps by themselves without medical recommendation. There is virtually no sharing between patients and their doctors or insurance providers.

According to MedCity, the UnitedHeath Group is attempting to remedy this by creating a yet-to-be-named app store that will be available to the general public by the end of 2012. This store would include apps that consumers can use to monitor their personal health and communicate with healthcare professionals via text or videochat.
