Experts believe cloud is safer than on-premise services

While cloud services were once fairly unpredictable tools for business, they are now considered among the safest and smartest IT solutions available to business owners, experts concur.

A recent Acronis survey indicated that confidence in backup and disaster recovery plans, which the cloud plays a large role in, is up 14 percent compared to a year ago. And though it was estimated by a 2011 CWD poll that only 28 percent of companies use the cloud, many believe that the technology will eventually eclipse on-premise services.

The 2012 State of Cloud Computing survey, recently released by InformationWeek, shows that some businesses prefer the cloud over traditional computer services. Twenty-seven percent of respondents noted that they think cloud applications are better than legacy in-house systems. Additionally, only 14 percent of cloud users said that they've had to fire a provider.

The cloud not only provides an easily accessible and cost-effective database for businesses, but its safety is notable as well. Co-founder and managing director of GetApp went as far as to tell CIO that "your data is probably safer with the vast majority of [cloud] vendors than if you keep it on your premises."
